Setting:

Hauntings at Hackett House takes place inside a classically haunted house that features ghosts, cursed or possessed objects, and living people. A popular ghost hunting show known as Arachna’s Nightmares, hosted by TV personality Arachna Phobia, has come to Hackett House to film a special overnight episode. Unfortunately for production, their star host did not survive the night.

Introduction:

Hackett House is the most haunted place in Gore County and has drawn the attention of TV personality Arachna Phobia, host of the hit show Arachna’s Nightmares.  Together with her crew she came to Hackett House to film a special overnight lockdown episode. Upon reopening the house in the morning, however, Arachna Phobia was found dead at the top of the grand staircase.   

All suspects, living and otherwise, have been detained by paranormal homicide detective, Detective Existentia Elle Dredd. Who- or what-ever is found guilty will be arrested. Or eliminated. For good this time.     

Characters Include:

Lady Hedy Hackett – The malevolent, cursed portrait of Lady Hedy Hackett. Your portrait was commissioned when Dr. Mortimer Hackett had the mansion built, before your marriage turned sour. People in town whispered about both you and your husband Dr. Mortimer for years. They told stories of strange noises coming from the house, people disappearing after visiting, and of your suspected witchcraft. After a decade of rumors and fighting, you died from an apparent poisoning. You were found directly in front of your magnificent portrait, where a piece of your soul became embedded in the painting. Now even in the afterlife you and Mortimer are vicious rivals.

Dr. Mortimer Hackett – Ghost of the infamous Dr. Mortimer and original owner of Hackett House. You had the elaborate home built as a wedding gift to your wife Lady Hedy, as well as a place for you to run your medical clinic. One night you decided enough was enough and arranged for your wife to fall asleep and never wake up again. The she-devil must have known what you’d done somehow, for that same night you also died, violent and bloody, in your own bed. Hacked to pieces while asleep. And now your spirit lingers here, spite and hate coursing through your undead plasma.

Lucy Angeles – Arachna’s enthusiastic assistant and associate producer, with a hardcore ‘cottage-core’ aesthetic. Always dressed in bright, pretty clothes. Obsessively up-beat to the point of unsettling. You like referring to spirits as ‘cute little ghosties.’ This was the first show you got to claim co-producing credits on, and could not be more excited. 

Dagger Brewster – Dramatic primary cameraman for Arachna’s show. Middle-aged goth man with various skull, moon, and spider tattoos. Copious amounts of eyeliner. A true crime podcast enthusiast and horror movie expert. You live for the dark, mysterious, and paranormal. When you got the opportunity to become Arachna’s principal videographer it was a dream come true.

How does it work?

Hauntings at Hackett House includes an overview of the party theme, setting and events, and a Character List. The Character List includes character descriptions for players beforehand so they may choose their preferred character in advance.

On the day of the event players receive a PDF or printed packet for each of their characters that includes a set of secrets about themselves and others that they may choose to hide or divulge at their discretion. These secrets are divided into three rounds. The Host will instruct all players to read their next round of information at various points throughout the game.

Hosts may play as a playable character or as Detective Dredd. Need a host? Hosting services available!
